Review Program
(Visit Date):

There is 1 more review conducted prior to 2014 not shown.
Description of Services:The facility accepts various copper-bearing scrap materials including rod mill scale (over 1/3 of total feed), copper slag, copper oxide (dusts), copper chops, copper-bearing filter paper, copper mud, scrap copper, copper fly ash, and miscellaneous copper by-products. Iron scrap is also accepted. Incoming materials are usually received in steel drums, Gaylord boxes, or supersacks, however bulk loads are also accepted. No hazardous waste is accepted.

The facility processes the materials mostly to produce copper smelter feed, however copper oxide is also produced for specific industrial applications, and a small amount of iron is processed to oxide. Materials may be shredded, sized, or manually jack-hammered for sorting and sizing (copper tube mill scrap), and in some cases undergo no additional processing; in most cases, however, prepared materials are processed in one of the onsite gas-fired industrial furnaces, which oxidize elemental copper, chemically changing it to cupric or cuprous oxide, and similarly oxidize iron. Thermal treatment also removes any organic materials (oil, grease, filter paper, etc.) which are not acceptable to the copper smelter. Product is shipped in 55-gallon steel drums, which are often reused received drums.
