Description of Services:The facility operates primarily as a waste treatment facility for prescribed (hazardous) and non-prescribed aqueous industrial wastes (using physio-chemical treatment methods), but also accepts oils, oily emulsions, and oily waters for bulking and off-site recycling, contaminated solids for solidification/stabilization, and other prescribed wastes for storage and off-site transfer for further treatment/disposal/recycling. Treatment includes:
  • Oil Recovery - Oil, oily water mixtures and surfactants are received on-site in either containers or via bulk loads and are further bulked in the large storage tanks. Oil and water are simply separated via gravity, and the oil contents are sent off-site for recycling, and the oily water wastes are treated in the on-site aqueous waste treatment plant.
  • Caustic Waste Treatment - The caustic waste treatment process uses four tanks (one reaction vessel, two spent caustic storage vessels, and one treated caustic vessel) to provide treatment using a wet oxidation process. Hydrogen peroxide the primary reagent used for the caustic waste treatment process. After reaction and successful oxidation, the treated effluent is sent to the aqueous treatment plant for further processing. All off-gases generated from this process are treated in an on-site scrubber unit.

    Aqueous Waste Treatment - Various types of aqueous wastes are treated using batch physio-chemical processes according to the chemistry of the waste types received. All batch treatment recipes are developed in the on-site laboratory prior to the start of processing. In general these processes include neutralization of high or low pH liquids, precipitation of dissolved salts/solids, and the separation of the soil phase materials from the treated liquid component using a filter press. The filter press solids are subject to drying in an on-site rotary dryer. Treated liquids will be subject to further clarification (and possibly carbon filtration) prior to batch discharge to the sewer system. Dilution as a treatment method may also be used for certain waste types (car wash waters, boiler blow down, cooling tower wash waters, etc.).

  • Stabilization (Immobilization)/Solidification - This process involves the treatment of liquids, sludges, and solids using fixation processes. In general, the wastes are dumped into one of two steel mixing pits, and reagents (primarily fly ash and other dust) are added to the pits and the mixture is mechanically mixed with a trackhoe until stabilized/solidified. The treated mixture is then excavated and placed in a covered storage stockpile for curing and analytical testing prior to off-site landfill disposal. The facility also has a new pug mill system that is currently in its testing stage which will also be used for stabilization/solidification in the future.
