Description of Services: | This facility has recently moved to Hayward, CA. That location will be considered a new facility. The facility is a California Department of Public Health Services (CDPH) permitted transfer/ processing facility that treats infectious wastes and transfers pathological/chemotherapeutic waste for offsite incineration. Most medical wastes, including laboratory wastes, sharps, containers, gauze, patient care/latex gloves, tubing and other biohazard wastes are treated onsite by autoclaving and then sent offsite to a non-hazardous waste landfill. Certain medical wastes, including all pathology, chemotherapy, and pharmaceutical wastes are shipped offsite for incineration within seven days of pick-up. Some biohazard wastes are also sent for incineration due to special customer requests. The autoclave process consists of the following steps: 1) unload the tubs of waste from trucks; 2) scan, weigh, and monitor tubs for radiation; 3) dump waste from tubs into the autoclave bin; 4) autoclave waste; 5) compact treated waste; 6) wash tubs; 7) send treated waste for disposal at a landfill; and 8) maintain autoclave, boiler, and conveyor systems. |
