Description of Services:Beaver Oil is a lubricating oil and miscellaneous other oily waste recycling facility. Primary operations at Gary are primary gravity separation of oil and water and pH adjustment and heating to enhance phase separation (batch processes).

Waste oil recovered by gravity separation is heated in various stills and reactors to remove remaining water and complete phase separation. Oil is then stored prior to centrifuge processing to remove solids (which are land disposed). Various oil-containing waste streams including lubricating oil, cutting fluids, and oil/water mixtures are processed in the facility; processed oil is sold as industrial burner fuel.

Wastewater generated from oil separation (generally low pH due to acid addition) has liquid sodium hydroxide added to adjust the pH. Ingredients are added to precipitate solids and metals, which settle to the bottom section of the tanks. Sludge is dewatered in a filter press; water from the filter press is pumped to the filter water tank, while filter cake is shipped to an offsite land disposal facility. Water meeting discharge requirements is released to the Gary Sanitary District POTW.
