Description of Services: | The facility conducts recycling of inorganic lead-bearing materials primarily consisting of spent lead acid batteries. Trucks or trailers deliver the batteries to the facility where they are unloaded at the battery breaker unit dock. Exide can either feed the batteries directly into the breaker unit or store them temporarily in permitted hazardous waste storage areas. The processing of the spent batteries begins in the breaker unit by cutting the batteries and hydraulically separating the individual components (plastic, battery acid, and lead material). Plastic is sent off-site for production of new battery cases. Acid is treated on-site. Lead-bearing materials are processed through the reverberatory and blast furnaces. |
