CHWMEG is sad to announce that Jonathan Sprecher, sole proprietor of Comtox Corporation (one of CHWMEG’s Preferred Facility Review Contractor firms), passed away in a hospital in the Phoenix, AZ area on January 15, 2026, after suffering a heart attack the previous week.
While not all our valued CHWMEG connections — member contacts, facility review contractors, the QA/QC report review team, and other friends of CHWMEG — knew Jonathan personally, we wanted to share this news with our entire community. Many of you have read (or reviewed) CHWMEG reports that Jonathan authored.
Since CHWMEG first connected with Jonathan in 1998, he has conducted more than 700 facility reviews for CHWMEG, including over 10% at facilities located outside North America. Jonathan was involved in nearly 10% of all CHWMEG reviews conducted since 1995.
Jonathan was a remarkable individual. He was a warrior in his tenacious pursuit of delivering accurate, meaningful, and actionable information to CHWMEG members. He approached his work as though he personally knew every reader of his reports, understood what they needed (or should be aware of), and was determined never to let anyone down.
One example that stands out and captures Jonathan’s spirit involves CHWMEG's expansion of its scope to include facility reviews outside North America. Early in its global expansion, CHWMEG awarded him a facility review located in Europe. After multiple attempts to coordinate/schedule the site visit with the facility went unanswered, Jonathan decided to take action.
Jonathan drove three hours to the Los Angeles airport and boarded a flight for Europe. He landed at 5 am, rented a car, and drove directly to the facility. He slept in the car near the entrance until they opened at 9 am. Jonathan then knocked on the door and cheerfully introduced himself, saying, "I am here to conduct the CHWMEG review that I mentioned several times in telephone and email messages over the past few weeks!"
Facility personnel welcomed him, provided him with copies of the requested documents, and answered his questions so he could complete the review. At the end of that day, Jonathan returned the rental car, slept on the airport floor, and boarded the first flight back to LA to start assembling the report.
Jonathan was truly tenacious. We will miss him deeply, and CHWMEG is profoundly grateful for his nearly three decades of support. Thank you, Jonathan. Rest in peace...
