Description of Services: | The UNL facility is comprised of a MSW baler building, and a MSW landfill, which currently has ~ 17 acres of permitted disposal area. The landfill is currently comprised of a ~ 7 acre lined MSW disposal area and a ~ 10 acre unlined inert waste disposal area. Other than baling of MSW prior to disposal, there is no other waste pre-treatment or processing at the site. In addition to MSW, the facility also accepts a very limited number of non-hazardous commercial and industrial wastes, including wood waste (for open pit burning), C&D waste (landfill disposal), tires (stockpile only), scrap metal (stockpiled for off-site recycling), fishing nets and lines (stockpiled for off-site recycling), fish waste (landfill disposal), and household hazardous waste (HHW) storage (storage for off-site transfer for treatment/recycling/disposal). Although the permit allows for disposal of contaminated (hydrocarbon) soils, the UNL generally does not accept this waste stream for disposal except from City of Unalaska cleanup projects. |
