| Description of Services: | The facility receives biomedical waste from clinical laboratories, hospitals, and medical and dental clinics primarily located in British Columbia. The Stericycle facility sterilizes non-anatomical and sharps biomedical waste using a hydroclave process which renders the waste non-hazardous. Biomedical waste containers are also cleaned and sanitized at the site prior to return to customers. Other biomedical wastes (such as cytotoxic wastes, regulated and non-regulated pharmaceutical waste, and anatomical wastes) are stored for transfer to off-site facilities for disposal. Further, the facility handles small quantities of dental amalgams, x-ray fixers, and other related wastes which are bulked and sent off-site for the proper treatment/disposal. No radioactive biomedical wastes are accepted. |
