Description of Services:The site treats nonhazardous petroleum contaminated soil. Material is brought into the site via dump trucks, roll offs, and drums. The soil is dumped onto the treatment pad prior to being mixed for treatment. The soil is mixed with woodchips and manure by using a multi-blend mixing machine. Once the material is mixed, bacteria and white root fungus starts to attack the petroleum in the soil. The mixed waste is placed into windrows and covered with a tarp. The piles sit from 20 to 60 weeks, allowing the bacteria to attach to the petroleum hydrocarbons. The pile is sampled following the Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR) for sampling a row, the site increases the amount of samples to ensure the piles have been treated properly. Core samples are taken every ten feet and are then analyzed at three different depths: two feet from the top, in the middle, and two feet from the bottom. These samples are screened using a PID, and the highest reading on the PID is sent to an outside lab for analysis. If the samples meet the BUSTR standards, the piles are moved onto the adjacent county landfill for cap cover. Material not meeting the parameters is mixed again and put back into the rows for further treatment.
